MUSIC: Kurt Cobain's “Teen Spirit” Guitar Sold For 4.5 Million At Auction

Kurt Cobain's “Teen Spirit” Guitar Sold For 4.5Million At Auction

A piece of rock and roll history blew pre-sale estimates away at Julien’s Auctions this weekend, as the 1969 Fender Mustang electric guitar used by Kurt Cobain in Nirvana’s 1991 “Smells Like Teen Spirit” video brought in around $4.5 million.

The original estimate for its sale price was $600k, but a bidding war quickly broke out during the auction, which was finally won by the Jim Irsay Collection of Indianapolis. In support of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Cobain family is donating a portion of the proceeds to Kicking The Stigma, an initiative to raise awareness of mental health disorders run by the Irsays’.

Other Cobain items sold at the auction included his 1965 “Baby Blue” Dodge Dart 170 sedan, which went for $375k, his personally drawn 1985 Iron Maiden “Killers” skateboard deck with an added NFT for $35,200, and Cobain’s original artwork of Michael Jackson plus an NFT for $87,500.

Evanescence Splits With Guitarist

With a European tour coming up and a late summer tour in North America with Korn, Evanescence has announced that they’ve parted ways with guitarist Jen Majura. A post on the band’s Instagram page wished their “dear friend” farewell and said they can’t wait to see what she does next.

What she did next was head over to Twitter to make sure everyone knew that it wasn’t her idea to leave, tweeting “I feel the need to address that none of this was my decision!” She went on to wish the band “all the best,” and to make sure everyone knows she has no hard feelings.

The band hit Instagram again yesterday to announce that Marjura’s replacement will be Tim McCord, who’s been the band’s bassist for the last 16 years. He’ll be replaced on bass by Emma Anzai of Sick Puppies.

Ozzy Osbourne Needs Another Neck Surgery Because of That 2003 ATV Accident

Remember when OZZY OSBOURNE crashed his ATV and almost died? Well, that was in 2003 . . . some 19 years ago . . . and he's STILL feeling the effects.

In fact, he needs another neck surgery because of it. He says, quote, "I can't walk properly these days. I have physical therapy every morning. I am somewhat better, but nowhere near as much as I want to be to go back on the road."

After the accident, Ozzy had surgery to repair a broken collarbone, eight fractured ribs, and damaged vertebrae in his neck.

But then, back in 2019, he suffered a fall at his home that dislodged the metal rods and bolts surgeons had placed in his back and collarbone. So he had to go under the knife again.

(Dude, retire already!)
