Texas Parents Sue Apple Over Damage To Son’s Ear Caused By AirPods
Two Texas parents are suing Apple, claiming their then 12-year-old son's eardrum was "torn apart" by a pair of Apple AirPods.
The suit claims the boy was watching Netflix in May 2020 when an Amber Alert went off, ripping open his right eardrum and leading to permanent hearing loss. The boy, according to the suit, was listening at a low volume. He now suffers from vertigo, nausea, and has trauma related issues.
An attorney for the family explains "Had Apple designed the AirPods to self-adjust to safe levels or provided warnings about the volume increases associated with alerts, this boy would be living a normal life.”
The couple wants to hold Apple liable for the "serious emotional stress" of the incident as well as current and future medical bills and are seeking $75-thousand.
