Music: Bono And The Edge Support Ukraine With Performance In Bomb Shelter

Bono And The Edge Support Ukraine With Performance In Bomb Shelter

A bomb shelter in Kyiv, Ukraine was the site of a special performance yesterday after President Volodymyr Zelensky invited Bono and The Edge from U2 to play. There was a small crowd of fans that included members of Ukraine’s armed forces.

In the middle of a set that included a rendition of Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me,” Bono told the crowd “The people in Ukraine are not just fighting for your own freedom, you are fighting for all of us who love freedom.”

The pair later visited Bucha, the site of a mass grave, near Kyiv. Bono told Sky News that “I think it’s one man’s war, really,” and went on to give a message to fans in Russia, saying “I trust in the younger people in Russia to throw this man out of his office,” referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Pearl Jam Play Foo Fighters Song In Los Angeles In Honor Of Taylor Hawkins

Pearl Jam brought their “Gigaton” tour to Los Angeles’ Kia Forum this weekend for a two-night stand and once again paid tribute to Foo Fighters Taylor Hawkins.

During their San Diego show, Eddie Vedder made a few comments about Taylor, but during night two in Los Angeles, they actually played a song for him.

With Pearl Jam drummer, and Taylor’s friend, Matt Cameron on lead vocals, his other good friend, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith on tambourine, and Mark Guiliana on drums, the band performed the Foo Fighters track “Cold Day In The Sun,” which has Taylor on lead vocals.

“It’s never easy when you lose someone,” Eddie told the audience. “As you get older, you’ll notice it starts happening more and more. It’s just where you are on the timeline and where your friends are on the timeline. But sometimes like this, it’s so unexpected, but also, it makes it harder because he was someone who truly, truly loved living life on this planet." He added, "I guess the one thing we can be consoled by is the fact that he never wasted a moment, and he did live his life to the fullest. We just want more of it.”

  • The night also featured Pearl Jam’s first performance of a track from Eddie’s solo album “Earthlings,” the song “Long Way.”
  • Also in Los Angeles, Eddie once again came out ahead of the opening act Josh Klinghoffer, performing Tom Petty’s “Won’t Back Down” on Friday and “Wildflowers” on Saturday. Eddie also took requests for the main set. Ahead of his pre-show performance Saturday he actually handed out slips of paper to those who had waited in all day to get in the front for GA and asked them to write down songs they wanted to hear that night. Check out the Foo Fighters cover to the right.

Twenty-One Pilots Were Supposed to Do a Song for "Top Gun: Maverick" But Got Fired by Tom Cruise

TWENTY-ONE PILOTS were originally tapped to do a song for "Top Gun: Maverick" . . . but were fired by TOM CRUISE before they could start.

Singer TYLER JOSEPH was on the "Klein and Ally Show" on KROQ and said, quote, "I was working with the music placement person for the new 'Top Gun' writing a new song for them and then I believe Tom just came in and fired everyone."

Tyler was brought in and shown some scenes from the new movie. But the firing happened pretty early on because he doesn't remember writing any lyrics.

It's unclear if Tom had decided to go with LADY GAGA instead, or if this was going to be an additional song for the soundtrack.
