Jacob Fisher's last name says it all.

The 16-year-old from Brownsboro, Texas, set a new world record after catching a giant longnose gar. It wasn't easy, though.

Fisher fought with the fish for over 10 minutes, according to KETK. Instead of giving up, the young but experienced teen went back out on the boat at Lake Palestine to catch the creature.

"It was turning nighttime and we headed back out because we didn’t want to miss an opportunity on this fish," Fisher told KETK. The fish caught Fisher's eye and he struck.

"Awesome, awesome shot he made on the fish. I didn’t even know he had shot it at first. I was in the back of the boat getting my equipment ready," Jacob's dad, Ryan Fisher, told KETK. The father-son duo was able to secure the longnose gar after another struggle.

The fish clocked in at 56.2 lbs, what the Fishers knew was a lake record. What they didn't know, however, was that this catch was actually a world record.

"I was really excited, I didn’t expect it to be a state record but it was," Fisher said.
