A Guy Inhaled a Drill Bit at the Dentist

If dentists make you nervous, here's one more thing to worry about . . .

A 60-year-old guy in Kenosha, Wisconsin named Tom Jozsi was having a cavity filled a few weeks back. And he COUGHED while they were drilling his tooth, which ended up being a very big deal.

He took a big breath before he coughed. And then the dentist realized that the one-inch drill bit they'd been using was GONE. It sounds like it wasn't locked in like it should have been, and came loose when Tom took that big breath.

They figured he must have swallowed the drill bit, so he got a C.T. scan. But it turned out he actually INHALED it . . . and it was lodged deep inside one of his LUNGS.

There wasn't an easy way to get it out, so they thought they'd have to remove a piece of his lung. But luckily that didn't happen.

His doctor decided to try a device that's normally used for finding lung cancer. It's basically a thin wire with a loop on the end. And they were able to snag the drill bit and pull it out.

Tom is fine now and shouldn't have any issues going forward. He says he's got the drill bit in a little jar displayed on a shelf at home. It's not clear if he's switching dentists or not.
