A self-taught barber in Seattle is giving out free haircuts on the streets to anyone who needs one.
On days when Randy Miller isn’t working as a day laborer, he can be found walking the streets of Seattle carrying his clippers and a folding chair looking for people who might need a haircut. He carefully makes his mostly homeless clients look their best, but more than that, he treats them with respect and makes them feel good about themselves.
Homeless himself, Miller started cutting hair for free on the streets as a way to be a blessing to other people in order to be blessed. He calls his business BeTheBlessing206 and he shares his mission on his Twitter and Instagram pages where gets encouragement and the occasional donation from around the world.
In the more than two years Miller has been cutting hair, he’s upgraded his folding barber chair from a milkcrate and traded a trash bag for a legit barber’s cape with a picture of Kobe Bryant on it. He runs his business on three main principles: be accountable, build relationships, and create an experience. His goal is to eventually go to barber school and maybe one day have a mobile hair-cutting van. Until then, he’ll be walking the streets giving out blessings and haircuts. #MyCommunityMyResponsibility
