Paul McCartney & More Share Memories Of Taylor Hawkins

Tributes to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins continue to pour in, with Paul McCartney the latest artist to share his memories of the late drummer.

"Taylor’s sudden death came as a shock to me and the people who knew and loved him,” he wrote on social media. “Not only was he a GREAT drummer but his personality was big and shiny and will be sorely missed by all who were lucky to live and work alongside him.”

McCartney then reminisced about the time Taylor and Dave Grohl, asked him to play drums on one of their tracks, noting it, “cemented my relationship with Taylor and the guys.” He also talked about inducting the Foo Fighters into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and playing “Get Back” with them.

“I’ll never forget that night. All of which made it much more of a desperately sad shock to hear he had died,” he offers. “So thanks Taylor for sharing some glorious minutes with me. You were a true Rock and Roll hero and will always remain in my heart.” Check out the full post below:

  • The Police drummer Stuart Copeland also talked about Taylor to Variety. “He is sorely missed. He was such a force of life that you don’t expect him to not be there,” he shares. “When Neil Peart went, he saw it coming. Everyone saw it coming. At one point he said to me, “I’m past my sell-by date.” He was still around a year later. With Taylor, it’s just so sudden.” Copeland also talked of Taylor’s love of music. “He was such a fan," he says. "Even though he was a huge star himself, he was a real fanboy.”
  • John Stamos, also a drummer, remembered Taylor by posting a sweet video in which Taylor complains about Stamos beating him out for a GEICO commercial. “I was supposed to do that GEICO commercial. You know that GEICO commercial where he flips the stick?,” he says in the clip. “That was mine! Originally that was mine. But they decided to go with Stamos ’cause he’s better looking!…But I’m the best stick flipper around. Sorry, Stamos, I got this. It goes me, Tommy Lee, Stamos.” Check it out to the right.
