Comedian John Crist did a video that makes fun of how every local TV news station reports on rising gas prices. The report always starts by showing the price per gallon on the sign, and then someone opens a gas tank and inserts the pump.
Then comes the dollar amount going higher and higher ON the pump. There's an interview with a customer who is depressed because he "can't afford anything with these prices." And they always end it by urging you to tune in later for more.
