The New Pixar Movie Openly Talks About a Girl Getting Her Period

Pixar's upcoming movie "Turning Red" is about a girl named Mei who starts turning into a giant red panda whenever she gets too emotional. It's a metaphor for puberty . . . and the title makes that obvious.

But there's another scene that's even more blatant. The first time Mei starts changing, she hides in her bathroom, and her mother assumes she just got her period for the first time.

So she brings her maxi pads and starts giving her advice about how her body is changing.

Producer Lindsey Collins says Pixar never pushed back on that scene. Quote, "I think they saw it very much in the DNA of the film and the characters.

"The hope is with putting it on the screen and having it be something that is cringy, but also funny, and a part of this story, it does normalize it.

"There's an appreciation from anybody who's gone through it for what we put on the screen, but also those who haven't gone through it."
