McDonald’s Is Selling Egg McMuffins For 63 Cents Today
It’s the 50th anniversary of McDonald’s Egg McMuffin and to celebrate, the chain is selling their famous breakfast sandwich for 63-cents today – but you have to order on the app. So why the price? That’s how much one would set you back in 1971. Never had one? It’s a freshly cracked egg topped with Canadian bacon and melted cheese on a toasted, buttered English Muffin.
But the history of the thing is also pretty interesting. The original sandwich was created by Herb Peterson, a franchise owner in Santa Barbara, California. His first attempt was to make a version of Eggs Benedict, but he discovered Hollandaise sauce wasn’t cutting it. And along with that? He also developed the Teflon rings the chain uses to give the eggs their perfectly rounded, signature shape.
But get THIS! Originally, the Egg McMuffin was served open-faced on a tray with honey and jam. Ultimately, the McMuffin rolled out nationally in 1975 and by 1977, led to McDonald’s serving a full line of breakfast menu items.
