The 1992 horror classic Candyman, about a hook-handed killer who appears when you look into a mirror and say his name five times, is getting an update from producer and co-writer Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us) and director Nia DaCosta. According to SlashFilm, the new movie reboots, recontextualizes, and continues the original Candyman tale. Producer Ian Cooper describes what the filmmakers are going for as "...mischievous in how we address the relationship to the first film but also be very satisfying.”
The trailer uses a really creepy, slowed-down version of Destiny's Child's "Say My Name" and it's got the group and song title trending on Twitter this morning.
Candyman features Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Colman Domingo, and original Candyman Tony Todd. It's slated to hit theaters on June 12th.
