A Serial Funeral Home Stretcher Thief Has Been Nabbed

A 58-year-old man from Florida named Christopher Johnson is facing felony charges after he allegedly stole a mortuary stretcher and cot cover valued at around $7,100 from a local funeral home. This unusual crime fits a pattern, as he is connected to a series of similar thefts across four states: Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.

To apprehend him, authorities formed a multi-agency task force that utilized tools like Flock cameras. While these cameras are often considered invasive, they have proven effective in helping to prevent local funeral homes from being robbed of their stretchers.

The investigation is ongoing because police believe Christopher may have stolen additional mortuary stretchers from other locations. It’s worth noting that he was arrested for similar offenses two years ago. The reasons behind his thefts remain unclear, but it appears he has knowledge of the resale market for these items.
