The Average Price of Gas Hit an All-Time High of $4.17

Your commute is costing you a little more than it did a week ago, because the price of gas just hit an ALL-TIME HIGH.

President Biden ordered a ban on Russian oil imports yesterday, so most people expect prices to keep rising for a while.

The national average for a gallon of gas jumped to $4.17 yesterday. The previous record was $4.11 in 2008. (If you adjust for inflation though, $4.11 in 2008 would be $5.25 today.)

This is all according to Triple-A, which tracks gas prices nationwide. The average premium was up to $4.74 yesterday, and diesel hit $4.76.

Obviously, a lot of it has to do with what's going on in Ukraine.

Only around 1% of the oil we use in the U.S. comes from Russia. But countries in Europe rely on it a lot more than we do.

The site GasBuddy.com tracks this stuff too. They expect the average to be about $4.25 by May.

They say it won't dip below $4 again until November.

GasBuddy.com said we passed the all-time high on Monday.

But the Triple-A numbers are the ones most people pay attention to.)
