A Copy of "Superman" #1 Is Now the Most Expensive Comic Book Ever Sold

Comics have a new king . . . and he's the same as the old king. A copy of "Superman" #1 from 1939, in near pristine condition, just sold for $9.12 million. That's a record for a comic book, and it's not even close.

 

 

The previous record holder was "Action Comics" #1 from 1938, which sold for $6 million in 2024.

 

 

For those of you who don't know, that comic featured the very FIRST appearance of Superman, before he had his own comic. It's also often recognized as the beginning of the superhero genre.

 

 

The new champ was found in an attic by three brothers, whose mother bought it when she was 9 years old in depression-era San Francisco. Over the years, she'd told her sons that she had, quote, "some rare comics somewhere."

 

 

They found it while they were going through her house after she passed away a few years ago.
