R.I.P. Ace Frehley

KISS legend Ace Frehley died yesterday. He was 74 years old. TMZ says he'd been hospitalized with a brain bleed after suffering a fall a few weeks ago. His family took him off life support last night.

Ace was the lead guitarist and "Spaceman" of the band from its inception in 1973 to his departure in 1982 . . . then again in the '90s for an episode of "MTV Unplugged" and a big reunion tour.

He also made two albums in the '80s with his own band, Frehley's Comet. He released his final solo album, "10,000 Volts", last year.

KISS songs written by Ace include "Cold Gin", "Parasite", "Talk to Me", and "Shock Me".

Although Ace was often at odds with Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons for not letting him back in the band, both released a statement on his passing.

They said, quote, "We are devastated by the passing of Ace Frehley. He was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history.

"He is and will always be a part of KISS's legacy. Our thoughts are with all those who loved him, including our fans around the world."

Gene also added a personal statement saying he's sad Ace won't be there when KISS gets a Kennedy Center Honor in December.

And, in a Facebook post, original KISS drummer Peter Criss said he and his wife were among family and friends who were with Ace at the end.

He added, quote, "Ace influenced and touch the hearts of millions of people. His legacy will live on in the music industry and in the hearts of the KISS Army . . . To the KISS Army and Ace's Rock Soldiers, my heart is with you all. Broken."
