A Gambler Jumped Off a Cruise Ship to Avoid His Debt, and Now Owes 15 Times as Much.
If you're a bad gambler . . . you're probably a bad criminal too.
A man jumped off a Royal Caribbean cruise ship in Puerto Rico last weekend, because he wanted to skip out on a gambling debt of $16,710.24 that he'd run up at the casino on the ship.
He was caught on surveillance camera jumping into the water near the shore, where he was picked up by people on jet skis.
The authorities didn't have any trouble tracking him down. He was arrested . . . and is now facing $250,000 in fines, and up to five years in prison.
So yeah, he thought he could slip out on his tab unnoticed, and now he owes around 15-times what he lost at the casino. For what it's worth, when they found him onshore, he had $14,600 in cash on him.
