President Trump has criticized a lot of award shows . . . especially the Hollywood comedians hosting them. So now, he's gonna get to SHOW 'EM HOW IT'S DONE!
Yesterday, Trump announced that he will personally host this year's Kennedy Center Awards . . . and it was NOT his idea . . . everyone begged him to do it.
He said, "It's going to be a big evening. I've been asked to host . . . I said, 'I'm President of the United States. I won't do it.' They said, 'please' . . . I said, 'OK, I'll do it.' So I've agreed to host.
"I didn't want to do it. OK? They're going to say, 'He insisted.' I did not insist. But I think it will be quite successful."
He DID refer to it as the "Kennedy Center," but it sounds like this could be the final year it's called that. Congress is working to re-name it the "Donald J. Trump Center for Performing Arts."
On Truth Social, Trump did playfully call it the "Trump / Kennedy Center."
In any event, Trump also announced this year's honorees. They are:
1. George Strait
2. Broadway star Michael Crawford . . . the "Phantom" from "The Phantom of the Opera"
3. Sylvester Stallone. Trump noted that Sly was "honored to be honored."
4. Gloria Gaynor
5. KISS
Trump also "joked" that he's always wanted to be honored at this show . . . but he's "waited and waited and waited" and it never happened. But now that he is the chairman, quote, "[maybe] next year we'll honor Trump, okay?"
This year's event will be happening in December, and will air on CBS.
