Astronomer Hires Gwyneth Paltrow As "Temporary Spokesperson"

Gwyneth Paltrow has a new gig - as "temporary spokesperson" for data company Astronomer. Yes, the same data company that went from obscure to "everyone knows their name" two weeks ago when their CEO and their Chief People Officer had their affair outed on the Kiss-Cam at a Coldplay concert.

You know the story: co-workers married to other people decide to take in a Coldplay concert, only to be spotted on the Kiss-Cam wrapped up in each other. Their reaction (horrified looks, then diving out of the frame) went viral, Internet sleuths quickly ID'd them, which led to the two resigning from the company. But now the company is well-known for all the wrong reasons. What to do?

In a fairly brilliant move, the company reached out to a celebrity who also happens to be the ex-wife of Coldplay singer Chris Martin. They hire Gwyneth Paltrow to come on board as a "temporary spokesperson," to film a minute-long video that both takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the controversy while at the same time pumping up the company and what it does.

"Thank you for your interest in Astronomer," the clip begins. "I’ve been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300-plus employees at Astronomer." Paltrow then sets out to answer questions about the company...but the expected questions (about the controversy) are answered instead with information about the company and its upcoming conference. Deftly dodging the hot-button topic, Paltrow instead calmly continues to promote the company, before once again thanking people for their interest. Well played, Astronomer. See the hilarious video to the right
