Food: Spicy McMuffins Hit McDonald’s Menus Today

Spicy McMuffins Hit McDonald’s Menus Today

The Egg McMuffin is turning 50 and to celebrate, McDonald’s is bringing the heat. Starting today, they’re adding Spicy McMuffin sandwiches to the menu. Each of the sammies is topped with a signature Spicy Pepper Sauce, a first for the breakfast lineup.

There will be three versions available: The Spicy Egg McMuffin, the Spicy Sausage McMuffin and the Spicy Sausage McMuffin with Egg. They all stick to the formula fans know and love, an English muffin, melty cheese, Canadian bacon or sausage and an egg, along with the new smoky, pepper-forward sauce to kick up the heat.

The beloved Egg McMuffin first hit McDonald’s menus back in 1975, but its origin is even older. Credit for the idea goes to Santa Barbara franchisee Herb Peterson, who pitched the idea of a handheld Eggs Benedict to Ray Kroc, who’s credited as the chain’s founder.

Starbucks Debuts New Frappuccino Flavors Today

Today is your lucky day, Starbucks fans. The new Strato Frappuccinos finally hit menus today, after first being teased in May, so people have been waiting months to taste one.

The name comes from the Italian word “strato,” which translates to “layer,” and in this case, the layer is cold foam on top of the blended drink. The Strato Frappuccinos come in three flavors:

  • Salted Caramel Mocha - Made with Frappuccino Roast Coffee and Mocha Sauce blended with milk and ice. It’s topped with a layer of salted caramel-flavored cream cold foam and a drizzle of caramel.
  • Strawberry Matcha - A pink and green blend of Starbucks’ recently reformulated unsweetened matcha, simple syrup, milk and ice, topped with strawberry-flavored cream cold foam.
  • Brown Sugar - This one combines Frappuccino Roast Coffee, milk and ice, layered with brown sugar-flavored cream cold foam and it’s topped with a “dramatic” dusting of cinnamon.

The release of the new drinks comes after Starbucks removed “less popular” beverages back in March. These included the Espresso Frappuccino, Caffe Vanilla Frappuccino, Java Chip Frappuccino, White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino, Chai Creme Frappuccino, Caramel Ribbon Crunch Creme Frappuccino, Double Chocolaty Chip Creme Frappuccino, Chocolate Cookie Crumble Creme Frappuccino, and White Chocolate Creme Frappuccino.
