At the Cannes premiere of her HBO documentary “My Mom Jayne,” Mariska Hargitay revealed for the first time that her biological father is Italian singer Nelson Sardelli, not Mickey Hargitay, who raised her and who she still refers to as her “father.” The film explores the life and legacy of her mother, Hollywood icon Jayne Mansfield, nearly 60 years after her death.
“Tonight I’m celebrating the power that film has for me to remember somebody I didn’t have the good fortune to know or grow up with,” Hargitay said tearfully at the premiere. Mansfield died in a car crash when Hargitay was three.
The documentary includes an interview with Sardelli, who discusses his relationship with Mansfield during a rough time in her marriage to Mickey. “It’s a very personal film, and truly a dream come true,” Hargitay told the audience.
