No one is doing anything about the price of eggs, so now restaurants are passing the costs down to you.
Waffle House has announced that they've added a 50-cent surcharge on every single egg they sell. The surcharge went into effect on Monday . . . and it's been applied to all menus from Waffle House, at nearly 2,000 locations.
They chose a "surcharge" rather than boosting prices across the menu because it's TEMPORARY. The extra fee will be removed once the price of eggs comes back down. Or raised, if costs climb even higher.
In a statement, they add, "We're continuously monitoring egg prices, and will adjust or remove the surcharge as market conditions allow."
Of course, no one seems to know when that will be. There are several factors contributing to volatile egg prices . . . mainly a bird flu outbreak in the U.S., which began in 2022 and has affected more than 135 MILLION birds.
Some politicians have implied that there's a switch that can be flipped to "immediately" drop prices . . . but if that's the case, no one has done it. So for better or worse, it looks like we're just going to have to ride this out.
In fact, the U.S. government now says the cost of eggs will only get worse throughout 2025, with prices forecasted to increase "about 20%."
Also, now that eggs are like NUGGETS OF GOLD, we may see more of this:
Roughly 100,000 organic eggs were stolen from a large egg producer in Pennsylvania. The thieves stole them from the back of a distribution trailer . . . and they were reportedly worth $40,000.
The eggs haven't been recovered, and the thieves are still on the loose.
