Sydney Sweeney Will Portray Boxer Christy Martin in a Biopic

Sydney Sweeney will portray boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic.

It'll follow her rise to fame in the '90s, quote, "as a young gay woman in small town Virginia," where she "used boxing as a vehicle to express herself and her rage."

The producers describe Christy as a female "Rocky". She's the only female boxer to be on a "Sports Illustrated" cover.

Christy was also the first woman to sign with promoter Don King. She married her coach Jim Martin, who's now behind bars for attempting to kill her in 2010. She went on to marry her former ring rival, Lisa Holewyne, in 2017.

Sydney says she's excited to get back into the ring and train for the role. She used to grapple and do kickboxing from 12 to 19 years old. She's 26 now.

Quote, "Christy's story isn't a light one, it's physically and emotionally demanding, there's a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself . . .

"[She] legitimized female boxing, overcame gender stereotypes, and fought through emotional, physical, and financial abuse. I feel compelled to tell a story about a woman who faced so much adversity and didn't allow it to defeat her."

It's still pretty early on, so the movie doesn't have a title or a release date yet.
