Olivia Munn revealed yesterday that she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and underwent four surgeries in the last ten months, including a double mastectomy.
She says, quote, "I've kept the diagnosis and the worry and the recovery and the pain medicine and the paper gowns private. I needed to catch my breath and get through some of the hardest parts before sharing."
Olivia was diagnosed with an aggressive form in both breasts, despite testing negative for all cancer genes in a genetic test and having just had a normal mammogram.
She only found her cancer because her OBGYN calculated her Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score at 37%, so she ordered an MRI, ultrasound, and biopsy.
Olivia says, quote, "I hope by sharing this it will help others find comfort, inspiration and support on their own journey."
In addition to thanking doctors, family, and friends, she thanked boyfriend John Mulaney for his support.
Quote, "For the nights he spent researching what every operation and medication meant and what side effects and recovery I could expect . . . For being there before I went into each surgery and being there when I woke up . . .
"Always placing framed photos of our little boy Malcolm so it would be the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes."
John responded, quote, "Thank you for fighting so hard to be here for us. Malc and I adore you."
