A Quarter-Mile-Long Tug of War Broke a World Record

The Summer Olympics are coming up in July. Did you know tug of war used to be an official sport? It was an event from 1900 to 1920. The U.S. won a gold and a silver in it. So, should we bring it back . . . and SUPERSIZE it?

100 people in the U.K. just broke a world record by competing in a tug of war match that stretched over a QUARTER-MILE.

Each side had 50 people positioned about 15 feet apart. The exact length was 1,694 feet. So, almost a third of a mile.

The two biggest challenges were finding a rope that long, and a venue that would work. They ended up doing it on a beach in south Wales.

With that many people, both sides were pretty equal. They had to pull for 1 minute and 15 seconds before someone finally won.

You can check out the footage of it online.
