The Most Important Bass Guitar in History Has Been Returned to Paul McCartney After 50 Years
Paul McCartney's long-lost Höfner bass guitar has been called "the most important bass in history" because it was used in the creation and recordings of dozens of Beatles classics.
It was stolen from the back of a van in the Notting Hill area of London in 1972, but Paul finally got it back, thanks to a grassroots campaign called The Lost Bass Project.
Members were able to track down the original thief, who led them to the person he sold it to. From there, they traced its journey over the past 50-plus years until it was finally located in the attic of a home on the south coast of England.
The homeowner didn't even know the history of the bass, and within days it was back in Paul's possession, and he's "incredibly grateful" to have it back.
While it needs some minor repairs, it's still complete and has its original case, and can easily be made playable again.
