Nickelback's Hometown Took Down the Signs Celebrating Them, Over "Safety Concerns"
Nickelback formed 28 years ago in the small town of Hanna, Alberta, Canada. The town was proud . . . and had signs BOASTING about it . . . but now, they're gone. And no, it's not because they're embarrassed.
For the past 20 years, the three highway entrances into Hanna had signs that said, "Hanna welcomes you." And "Proud to be the home of Nickelback."
But they removed them in May because they've become a "safety risk."
The mayor says too many Nickelback fans were stopping on the side of the highway to take photos or selfies with the sign, and it caused congestion and other problems.
They'll be replaced with signs that don't mention Nickelback.
The Nickelback signs aren't being thrown out. One is going to the town's museum, and another will be kept at the visitor information center.
The third is being given to a restaurant in Montana. It isn't random. The place is owned by former NHL star Lanny McDonald, who is also from Hanna. His was changed to: "Home of Nickelback and Lanny McDonald."
The town is also getting a new, electronic sign, which will say, "Home of Nickelback." It'll be installed in a "safe location," away from the highway.

Wolfgang Van Halen Praises Dave Grohl As His Rock Idol
Wolfgang Van Halen Praises Dave Grohl As His Rock Idol: You might think that being the son of a rock legend, Wolfgang Van Halen might list his father- Eddie Van Halen- as his idol. And you would be wrong. In a recent interview with the BBC, the younger Van Halen named Dave Grohl as the man he admires most. "I've chosen Dave Grohl because he just inspires me infinitely — in songwriting and capability as a musician,” said Wolfgang. “It's how I mirror a lot of my experience, so where I've come from and what I've tried to do myself. So he's just everything I aspire to be." The Mammoth WVH frontman and Grohl have had a number of opportunities to work together, including at the tribute show to the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins last year.
