Matt Damon Missed Out on $250 Million by Passing on "Avatar"

Matt Damon could have done "Avatar."  James Cameron offered it to him back in 2009, but he was doing the "Bourne" movies during that time, and he didn't want to, quote, "leave them in the lurch."

So he turned it down.  But here's the thing:  In addition to a salary, Matt was offered a percentage of the earnings.  Ultimately, he would have made $250 million if he'd said yes.

He thinks it's, quote, "the most money an actor ever turned down."

That might not be true, though.  CNN points out that Sean Connery turned down the role of Gandalf in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

He was offered $30 million per film, plus a percentage . . . which would have put something like $450 million in his pocket.
