Soundgarden, Iron Maiden Barely Make Hall Of Fame’s Fan Top Five

The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame’s Fan Vote has ended. And as the dust settled on a hotly-contested race, two iconic rock groups have made it to the Top Five. Barely.

While pop stars like the late George Michael and Cyndi Lauper made the top two with overwhelming numbers (1,040,000 for Michael and 928,000 for Lauper), Iron Maiden and Soundgarden squeaked in with under 500,000 each. Maiden settled for just over 449,000 votes, while Soundgarden logged more than 427,000 votes.

Warren Zevon, likely helped by a Billy Joel-led campaign, notched over 634,000 votes to take third place. The fan vote is one of my factors in selecting the 2023 inductees. The members of this year’s class will be announced this month and inducted in the fall.

Travis Barker Updates Fans On Blink-182 Album

2023 has been a busy year for Blink-182. The band, recently reunited with singer Tom DeLonge, originally announced a comeback tour of South America before an injury to drummer Travis Barker forced the band to cancel that leg and re-debut at Coachella instead.

Now, Barker is giving fans even more news to be excited about. “Album will be finished before we leave on tour,” wrote the drummer on Twitter. As it stands, Blink-182 is scheduled to kick off their new tour in North America on May 4th.

No further details have been given, but the tour is set to run through October- which leads some to speculate that the album will see a fall release. Earlier, Barker revealed that the new album would contain a follow-up track to their popular “Anthem” and “Anthem Pt. 2.”
