Chick-fil-A Is Selling a Cauliflower Sandwich
Here's something new to try . . . or not: Chick-fil-A is about to debut its first plant-based option, a CAULIFLOWER SANDWICH.
They'll start selling them in three test markets on Monday: Denver, Colorado . . . Charleston, South Carolina . . . and Greensboro, North Carolina.
It looks almost identical to their normal Chick-fil-A sandwich but doesn't taste like it.
A writer for "USA Today" got their hands on one and said it tasted nothing like their normal chicken sandwich. But in their opinion, that's a GOOD thing. (???)
They admitted they're not a fan of chicken breast in general, so they like the new cauliflower version better.
The chicken patty ISN'T ground-up cauliflower that's been molded into a patty shape. It's a FULL CHUNK of it that's marinated in buffalo sauce, breaded, and cooked in a pressure fryer. They claim that's what people wanted.
They also tested different plant-based options, like whole mushroom caps and a fried green tomato sandwich. But the cauliflower one did better in taste tests. They say they've been working on it since 2018.
This part's weird, though. They say it's not really "vegetarian." (???) It's not gluten-free either, and definitely not vegan.
They're calling it "plant-forward" instead because it contains milk and eggs. It also sounds like it's cooked in the same fryers as their normal chicken sandwiches.
If people like it, they plan to roll it out nationwide in six months to a year. But it could take longer if they have to tweak it at all.
