Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta (The Forever Purge, Narcos: Mexico) plays anti-hero Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Namor the Sub-Mariner is one of Marvel's oldest characters. He stars in the very first Marvel comic, along with the original Human Torch, so those two are technically tied for the title of First Marvel Superhero. Namor was also Marvel's first mutant character, with ties to the X-Men going back to their earliest comic book stories.
The Black Panther follow-up positions him as the antagonist, but one with understandable motivations. His MCU introduction also changes the character from sort of an underwater Roman emperor to protector of a Mesoamerican-inspired underwater civilization.
But we're not here to talk about any of that. Fans on Twitter are convinced that Marvel got nervous about the size of Namor actor Tenoch Huerta's package on-screen and used digital effects to shrink it down. They make a pretty compelling case, comparing images from the final film to set photos and screen shots from earlier trailers. The movement seems to have started with Twitter user @belovasoup. Naturally, this has led to some very entertaining tweets and memes, some utilizing #ReleaseThePenisCut. Enjoy some of our favorites below...
