Walmart Apologized for Trying to Sell Juneteenth Ice Cream

It took over 150 years for Juneteenth to become a holiday . . . and just under ONE year for the world's biggest corporation to capitalize on it: Walmart is catching heat for selling a Juneteenth ICE CREAM.

  (???)  (Here's a photo.)

Photos went viral yesterday, and people thought it was a joke at first. But Walmart really was selling it. I say "was" because they've already pulled it from shelves.

They issued an apology that said, quote, "Juneteenth marks a celebration of freedom and independence. However, we received feedback that a few items caused concern for some of our customers, and we sincerely apologize."

Juneteenth . . . which is June 19th . . . commemorates the end of slavery. It's the date in 1865 when the last slaves in Texas were officially declared free. And it just became a federal holiday last year.

The actual flavor was "swirled red velvet and cheesecake." But the main text on the label said "Juneteenth Ice Cream." And it looks like they tried to trademark it too.  (???)

If you search Walmart's website, all kinds of Juneteenth-related party products pop up, including bingo cards . . . sticker wraps for wine bottles . . . and 'fun' New Year's style glasses with "1865" at the top. It's not clear if they're pulling any of that stuff or not.

(One photo we saw also showed a "Pride" ice cream they've been selling. No word on whether they're pulling that one.)
