Food: Beyond Meat Now Has Plant-Based Jerky

Beyond Meat Now Has Plant-Based Jerky

The word "jerky" comes from an old, indigenous word in Peru that means "dried, salted meat." So is it still jerky if it's NOT meat?

The company Beyond Meat just released its own line of jerky in three flavors . . . Original, Spicy, and Teriyaki. They're now available at grocery stores, gas stations, and convenience stores nationwide.

It's made of all plant-based ingredients, including peas and mung beans. And it's Beyond Meat's first shelf-stable product. Everything else they sell has to be refrigerated. No word yet on how close it is to actual beef jerky.  (Here's a photo.)
