WNBA star Britney Griner was arrested at a Russian airport last month when authorities allegedly found vape cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage.
The crime can carry a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
But Griner's arrest could go beyond just simple crime and punishment. Evelyn Farkas is a former Pentagon official who thinks Russia could be using it for more sinister purposes.
Quote, "If we want her out of jail, Russia is going to have some terms. It could be a prisoner swap. They also could use it as an implicit threat or blackmail to get us to do something or not do something. Either way, they find it useful."
Griner is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and seven-time WNBA All-Star. But she's also one of many female American basketball stars who play overseas during the offseason because it pays BETTER.
