1ST UP: Amateur Drone Pilot Helps Save Fisherman From Shark Attack
A photographer and amateur drone pilot in Australia was sitting on his balcony in Sydney when he sent his drone camera out to capture some footage.Matt Woodswas shocked and horrified when the camera revealed a shark circling a spear fisherman swimming at Bondi Beach.
The 36-year-old immediately called the lifeguard to alert them to the situation and continued watching the creature bite at the diver’s orange float for nearly half an hour. He believes it was a mako shark and says the fisherman was fighting it off with his spear gun. And he was relieved when the shark was finally cleared out by a lifeguard on a jet ski.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Woods says. “I was pretty happy once the lifeguard came out and I could see the diver managed to scramble onto the rocks and reef.”
