Morrissey Slams “The Simpsons”

You’d think most people would be excited about making a cameo in “The Simpsons” – especially if they were being voiced by a star likeBenedict Cumberbatch. But not Morrissey. He’s hit out at the show for their not-so-flattering portrayal.

The episode in question was Sunday’s “Panic On The Streets Of Springfield,” the title referencing the Smiths’1986 single. Lisa Simpson discovers the singer Quilloughby (voiced by Cumberbatch) through the streaming service “Slapify” – with “The Snuffs” parody music courtesy flight Of The Conchords’ Bret McKenzie– after clicking on a prompt that said, “if you hate everything, you might like this.”

The episode takes a few jabs at Morrissey, who is no stranger to controversy, including showing him firing off a meat-gun at a concert while singing about “hating the foreign coming to this country and taking out jobs.” Morrissey has slammed the show in a post to “Facebook,”... but reps for Fox and “The Simpsons” have yet to respond. Check out the post below.

  • “Poking fun at subjects is one thing. Other shows like SNL still do a great job at finding ways to inspire great satire,” the post reads. “But when a show stoops so low to use harshly hateful tactics like showing the Morrissey character with his belly hanging out of his shirt (when he has never looked like that at any point in his career) makes you wonder who the real hurtful, racist group is here.”
