RATM Bassist Says Band Won’t “Sell Out” With Drive-In Or Limited Capacity Shows

Rage Against The Machine bassist Tim Commerford says you won’t catch his band doing drive-in concerts or limited capacity shows. In a new interview, the bassist calls musicians putting on these kinds of covid-era concerts “sellouts.”

Rage Against The Machine was set for a big reunion tour in 2020 before the pandemic hit. Tim says “musicians got kicked to the curb” by coronavirus, and while it’s “stressful,” he also says shows are as much about the audience as they are seeing the band.

"We'll never be one of these sellouts that's gonna go play a drive-in show or play a venue that holds a hundred thousand people and there's only ten thousand people there," he says. "It's not a good show unless the audience is going off too. It's gotta be a shared experience."

Travis Barker On Why Relationship With Kourtney Kardashian Works

Travis Barker is opening up about dating Kourtney Kardashian. Appearing on “The Drew Barrymore Show” yesterday, the Blink-182 drummer said his and Kourtney’s relationship “comes natural” – especially since they’re both parents.

Travis says it would be “kind of hard” to date women who didn’t have kids, since they’d “have trouble understanding” why he didn’t have time to see them all the time or take them out for dinner “every night.” But with Kourtney, there's a "maturity thing" that makes it easier. Now that he’s with someone who’s a “great mom” and a “great friend,” he “doesn’t have to worry about any of those things.”

"I also really like missing someone and cherishing the time that I spend with them, instead of, you know, every day being with them, especially in the beginning of the relationship,” he adds. “I think missing someone is so important.”

"You're Welcome", A Day to Remember. This is their seventh album.

Can Concerts Return This Summer?

PRESIDENT BIDEN says we'll have enough COVID vaccines for everyone by the end of May. Does that mean we can start going to concerts again? It isn't very easy.

Live Nation is planning to host outdoor amphitheater shows by mid-summer. And they're pretty optimistic that, quote, "events can return to regular capacity" soon after the vaccine becomes widely available.

Unfortunately, it'll probably take longer than that for the touring industry to start up again. We may even have to wait until next year. And there are a few reasons for that.

First, it will be a while before indoor venues are allowed to operate close to full capacity, and indoor shows may not be worthwhile until then.

It's also not worth it for an artist to tour if the whole country isn't in sync. One music exec says, quote, "You can't do Swiss-cheese routing. If it's got holes in it because certain states haven't opened up, it's generally not going to work."

Then there's the safety issue. Are enough people taking the vaccine? What about variants of the virus? Will the vaccines be effective against all of them? And should we start packing arenas and concert halls before we have the answers?

Many people in the live music industry have cold feet about even announcing anything at this point because so many things have been pushed back so many times.

So while it looks like there will be some shows this year . . . at least at outdoor venues . . . it remains to be seen if anyone will make a move to start touring again.
