Trent Reznor On David Bowie’s Influence
Trent Reznor is among those performing today’s David Bowie birthday celebration. In an interview with “Consequence of Sound” ahead
of the event, the Nine Inch Nails frontman talks about the late music legend’s influence and their friendship.
Trent says Bowie’s influence goes beyond just the music – he was also a mentor, changing how Trent thought about making music professionally. Trent found a balance between putting food on the table while also being able to be creative, “have success at something and then throw it away and try something new.”
Nine Inch Nails ended up opening for Bowie in support of his 1995 “Outside” album – even though the band had just wrapped a two-and-a-half-year tour. They said yes without hesitation. "What really left the biggest impression on me was that I was in a bad state of addiction and kind of going down the toilet," Trent adds about his relationship with Bowie. "And he was on the other end to have come out of it, there were a few kinds of big brother / fatherly times.”

Axl Rose Gave Dave Grohl A Big Thank You For Letting Him Use His Throne
When Dave Grohl broke his foot in 2015 ahead of a massive Foo Fighters tour, he didn’t cancel the shows and instead built a throne from which to rock on. And it turns out that the throne wound up helping many other injured artists, including Guns N Roses Axl Rose and even country band Old Dominion’s Matt Ramsey.
“Axl took it out with Guns N’ Roses, then he took it out with AC/DC, and then all of a sudden I became the guy you come to if you break a limb on tour, like Thrones R Us,” Dave tells "Classic Rock" magazine.
And Axl was certainly grateful that Dave helped him out. “He had Slash go pick me a guitar,” Dave shares. “And he picked me an early-’60s Gibson ES 335 Dot, which to this day is the nicest f**king guitar I have ever played in my life.”
Dave adds, "It was an incredibly kind and classy gesture, and I was very appreciative.”
