Astros Take 2 of 3 vs Arizona, AL West Lead 4.5 Games

The Houston Astros beat the Diamondbacks 5-4 on Sunday to take 2 out of 3 and take the series. Houston is now 19-5 over it's last 24 games. The Astros picked up win number 94 with 13 games remaining in the regular season. Last season, they finished the regular season 101-61. 

In a solid pitcher's duel between Zack Greinke and Justin Verlander, it was Verlander who prevailed, pitching seven innings allowing just one run off three hits with eleven strikeouts. Verlander has been oustanding in the month of September, going 3-0 in three starts with a 1.93 ERA. Last September, Verlander went a perfect 5 wins in 5 starts with a 1.06 ERA. He matched his single-season career-high with 269 strikeouts.

George Springer, who is the catalyst for the Astros lineup, went 7-for-12 in the series vs Arizona with two walks and six runs scored. In the month of September, Springer is batting .385 with 17 runs scored. 

Roberto Osuna picked up his 18th save of the season. He is a perfect seven for seven in save opportunities in the month of September, all consecutively and has a 1.29 ERA in the month.

The Astros division lead increased to 4.5 games over Oakland following their loss to Tampa. The Astros will begin a three-game series at home vs Seattle on Monday, while Oakland has an off day. With a win on Monday, the Astros can increase the lead to five games with just two weeks remaining in the regular season.
