Today Is National Radio Day . . .
Who says August doesn't have holidays? Today is one of the most important holidays of the year . . . even if I only heard about it two hours ago:
Today is National Radio Day!
Here are some results from a recent survey in honor of today . . .
1. 71% of people listen to the radio in their car.
2. 67% say they listen to the radio every day, at some point.
3. 56% of women and 35% of men sing along to the radio.
4. 59% of women and 76% of men are listening when we say "don't touch that dial" . . . and they stay on a station during the commercials.
5. And finally, almost 9% of people say radio stations don't play enough commercials and should have more.
Here are a few more fun stats from across the internet . . .
1. A study by Tinder in 2016 found "radio personality" was one of the SEXIEST JOBS you could have. Yeah, that was 10 years ago now . . . but nothing ages as well as a face for radio!
2. There was an article a while back where Americans said listening to the radio is one of the top "little things" they look forward to each day. And a poll during the pandemic found that it was the #1 thing people missed about their commute.
3. According to a report from March, podcasts are surging in popularity, but they're NOT eating into radio numbers, which have held steady in recent years.
4. A report says radio "dominates" Gen Z's ad-supported audio time at 47% . . . outpacing 31% for streaming music and 21% for podcasts.
