Diners Say No To Kids, But Dogs Are Welcome At Restaurants

New research suggests parents should leave the kids at home, but bringing their dogs is fine with a lot of U.S. diners. Lightspeed Commerce polled 1,000 people across the country and found 75% support having an adults-only dining section in restaurants. And 79% of parents are on board.

According to the poll, half of those surveyed think limiting kids or having adults-only dining depends on the setting, but 26% support the idea outright.

People are most in favor of restricting kids in restaurants in late-evening settings (49%), designated adults-only sections (46%), romantic settings (46%) and alcohol-focused venues (43%).
Younger diners support the idea most, including 84% of Gen Z and millennials who say they want adults-only areas in restaurants. That drops to 77% for Gen X, 67% for baby boomers, and down to 56% for the Silent Generation.
While a lot of people would be fine with banning kids where they eat, many of them welcome dogs. Nearly half of respondents (45%) support dog-friendly restaurants, including 16% who want them to be allowed inside and 29% who are in favor of keeping them outside.
Gen Z diners support it most, at 64%, compared to 35% of baby boomers.
The research also shows that wellness trends are influencing restaurant menus, with 32% of diners saying high-protein options affect what they order when dining out.
Gut health is also on their minds, with 22% saying gut-friendly ingredients are becoming more important to their dining choices.
Overall, two-thirds (68%) of Americans polled say ingredients linked to health benefits, like protein, fiber and gut health, influence what they order at restaurants.⠀
