Back2School program has been paving the road for success for under-served children in Houston since 2005. Beginning with just one school district, our program now encompasses a number of independent school districts and charter schools across 5 counties. Overall, this annual project has helped more than 50,000 children.

We truly believe that an investment in our students is an investment in our future. All children, regardless of their socio-economic status, should walk into school, on day one, with a backpack and the basic supplies needed to succeed. Thanks to our partnership with The Rod Ryan Show for the past 17 years, this program provides thousands of school-aged children with the foundation for academic success.

Let's do this, Rod Ryan Show family! Houston Helps Houston. One Backpack at a Time.

For 17 years, we have partnered with Houston Children’s Charity, raising money to purchase and stuff backpacks for children in the area.

The Rod Ryan Show Cares Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping and assisting those in the Houston area through the generosity of our listeners.

It all began when I moved to Houston back in 2004. I was instantly amazed by the kindness and generosity of our listeners. One of our first big events was a fundraising drive for the Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami in early 05. I could not believe how many people came forward to donate money to aid those halfway across the country. Then came the startup league HODA (The Houston Dodge Ball Association), raising money for local causes such as Texas Adaptive Aquatics and The Houston Furniture Bank. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit my adopted home of New Orleans, and I knew we had to do something. On August 29, I watched the city I love go underwater. On August 31st, The Rod Ryan Show went on the air at 6 am like we do each day, but this time we stayed on LIVE until Friday, September 02, 12:00 Noon. 54 Hours straight broadcasting live; raising just over $504,000 for Katrina Relief (The area code of New Orleans is 504). Our listeners’ generosity hooked me on continuing to help others for as long as I held a position. My second adopted home, Houston, TX, was hit by Hurricane Harvey in 2017. As the water rose in our neighborhoods, we created our Houston Strong Campaign while I was evacuated to a hotel room, working on a laptop. Once again, our listeners came through BIG to help our own! For 17 years, we have partnered with Houston Children’s Charity, raising money to purchase and stuff backpacks for children in the area. Our amazing listeners have donated over $1,000,000 for this cause.

Over the past 21 years, we have had countless Tournaments, cook-offs, Fundraisers, Derby Races, T-shirts, and Drumstick sales, bringing our total to over 3 Million Dollars. Again, all from the generosity of YOU, our Amazing Listeners!

There have been many Awards, Plaques, Certificates, and Presentations over the years, but none higher than on May 14th of 2013, when the Mayor of Houston declared it Rod Ryan Show Day in the City! We share each and every recognition with the Best Listeners In The World—the Rod Ryan Show Family!
