Audi's New Electric Car Shares Its Name With The French Word For Turd

This is like that urban legend about the Chevy Nova not selling in Spanish speaking countries because it translates to "does not go". (Turns out that isn't true . Bummer, I know.)

Hopefully French speakers worldwide don't mind having a car called the Audi Turd.

German automaker Audi should have thought about checking with its neighbors in France before settling on a name for its new all-electric line, the e-tron. As it happens, it’s a little too close to the French word “ étron ,” which means “excrement” or “turd.”

The e-tron does look awesome, but I don't know if I won't always see it and think to myself, There goes an Audi Turd. It starts at just under $75,000 so I will definitely be thinking to myself, There goes one rich m'fer.
