Chris Cornell of SoundGarden, AudioSlave & Temple of the Dog Dead at 52

This is a tremendous loss for music, Chris's fans and me personally. One of rock's greatest and most prolific voices is gone. Chris Cornell and SoundGarden's music were a huge part of my life. Without them things would have been very different for all of us.

Goodnight to a legend.

I had been lucky to speak to Chris Cornell a few times, but this was one of my favorite conversations with him....

Chris Cornell talks about his amazing solo album "Higher Truth" how music is a time machine, old mutual friends and what made Cornell realize that music was the most important thing in his life.

In the interview, Chris and I talked about our mutual friend Al Marks. Al worked with my band at A & M records. A better man you could never hope to meet. His friendship with Chris spanned over 30 years  and his words about Chris's passing brought me to tears. Please take a moment to read them below.

According to his representative, Brian Bumbery, Chris Cornell, has died at age 52.

Bumbery told the associated press that Cornell died unexpectedly Wednesday night in Detroit

The death was called "sudden and unexpected" and Chris's family is in shock. He also said the family asked for privacy as they worked with medical examiners to determine the cause of his death.

A tweet from Chris's account just hours earlier made it seem like he was excited to be playing in Detroit with Soundgarden, and that there was no reason to believe anything was wrong.

Chris seemed very happy to be back on the road with SoundGarden

Chris has just released this song....
