The Painting from the Beginning of "Good Times" Sold for $15.3 Million 

 Remember the painting they used in the opening credits of "Good Times" back in the day? The one with a room full of African-Americans dancing?

It was also used as the cover of MARVIN GAYE's 1976 album "I Want You".

It's actually a really famous painting by Ernie Barnes, called "Sugar Shack". And it's so famous, it just sold for almost $15.3 MILLION. That's 76 times more than it was expected to go for.

 

 

The bidding lasted about 10 minutes, but an edited, one-minute version is on TikTok.

(You'll notice the actual winning bid is $13 million. The rest is a "buyer's premium" that gets paid to the auction house.)
