The 10 Trendiest Delivery Foods of the Year

Every year, Grubhub releases its list of the "trendiest" delivery foods, based on the biggest jump in popularity from the previous year. 2019 was all about healthier "plant-based" foods . . . and in 2020, people threw healthy eating out the window, and went for unhealthy comfort foods.

This year? There's a little bit of both.

This year Top 10 are: "Impossible" cheeseburgers . . . shredded pork tacos . . . apple pecan chicken salad . . . Detroit-style pizza . . . margaritas, the drink, NOT the style of pizza . . . pub mac and cheese . . . pork dumplings . . . chicken burritos . . . poke nachos . . . and lettuce wraps. (Which doesn't SCREAM satisfying.)

The top side dish was chips and pico de gallo . . . the top dessert was strawberry shortcake sundae . . . and the biggest order was someone who wanted 200 bacon cheeseburgers in a single order.

New Mexico had the highest average tip percentage . . . Rhode Island had the highest percentage of late-night orders . . . and Alaska had the highest average spend per order.

These Will Be The Biggest Food Trends Of 2022, According To Pinterest

The end of every year brings reflections on the past year’s trends…but there are also plenty of predictions about what may be coming in the next year and “Food & Wine” is reporting that there are some interesting trends popping up on Pinterest, which offer a peek at the biggest food and drink trends for 2022. Some of these may sound a little out of the ordinary so we will see if they actually come true. Here are some of their guesses.

  • Afternoon tea will be the new happy hour – Apparently, searches for “vintage tea party”, “high tea food ideas”, “drinking tea pose” and “tea party aesthetic” have been on the rise lately and only look to increase in 2022.
  • Ancestral eats” – This is defined as “somebody’s grandparents’ recipes” and if you’re not totally sure what that means, consider that Pinterest searches for traditional Norwegian recipes are up…to the tune of 120%! Authentic Filipino recipe searches are up by 35%...but traditional Russian foods? A staggering 150% increase.
  • Cupcakes are “out” – Elaborate cakes – from gravity-defying tiers to bubble and 3D cakes – are “in” and while we’ll always have a place in our hearts for cupcakes, cake POPs are going to be the “new flavor.”

There are a number of other Pinterest predictions to consider – and they aren’t just about food – you can check them out HERE.
