2. Tom Petty Died of an Accidental Drug Overdose
TOM PETTY died suddenly at the age of 66 back in October, and over the weekend, the L.A. County Medical Examiner announced that it was an accidental drug overdose.
He had a lot of prescription pain medication in his system, including fentanyl and oxycodone along with sedatives Restore and Xanax and an antidepressant called Celexa.
They also discovered the powerful nonprescription drugs acetyl-fentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl. Those are illegal drugs and it's kind of reminiscent to how PRINCE died, after taking a combination of prescription fentanyl and synthetic opioids.
In a Facebook post, Tom's family explained some of the pain meds. He suffered from multiple medical issues for several years, including emphysema and he fractured a hip on his final tour.
They also revealed that Tom was told his fractured hip had become a full break on the SAME day that he died. And they said, quote, "It's our feeling that the pain was simply unbearable and was the cause for his over-use of medication.
"We feel confident that this was, an unfortunate accident."
