R.I.P. Ted Turner

Ted Turner died yesterday after a battle with Lewy body dementia. He was 87 years old.

As the founder of CNN, Turner was the godfather of cable news. He also revolutionized cable itself, with channels like TNT, TBS, Turner Classic Movies and the Cartoon Network.

He also won the America's Cup in 1977, and was a former owner of the Atlanta Braves and World Championship Wrestling . . . which had a huge run in the 1990s that almost put Vince McMahon and the WWE out of business.

Turner had five children with his first wife, and went on to marry two more times. His last and most famous marriage, to Jane Fonda, lasted from 1991 to 2001.

He was worth almost $3 billion.

President Trump called Turner "a friend" and "one of the greats of all time." But he also used his statement to complain about how horrible CNN became after Turner sold it.

Fonda issued a very long statement saying, quote, "I loved Ted with all my heart" . . . adding that he, quote, "swept into my life, a gloriously handsome, deeply romantic, swashbuckling pirate and I've never been the same."
