'The Last Of Us' TV Series Coming To HBO

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is working on a TV series based on the popular survival horror game The Last of Us. The game was a massive hit with both audiences and critics when it debuted for PlayStation in 2013. The sequel, set to arrive May 29th, is one of the most highly anticipated video game releases ever.

Craig Mazin, creator of HBO's Chernobyl limited series, is working on The Last of Us with the game's original writer and creative director, Neil Druckmann. The series will cover the events of the first game and may add content based on The Last of Us II. The post-apocalyptic adventure follows Joel, a smuggler in this new world, and Ellie, a teenager who may be hold the key to a cure for a deadly pandemic. Joel is hired to smuggle the 14-year-old girl out of an oppressive quarantine zone. This small job turns into a brutal journey across the U.S. and the pair come to depend on each other for survival.

Fans are psyched and already debating casting for lead characters, Joel and Ellie. The names highest on most people's wish list seem to be Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) and Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart). Also lots of love out there for Hugh Jackman (Logan), Sophia Lillis (It), Garard Butler (Olympus Has Fallen), and Sadie Sink (Stranger Things).
