Marvel Comics has decided to make the character Thor a WOMAN. And no, it's not a sidekick or a spin-off. The ACTUAL Thor is going to be female in the comic books now.
In the official announcement on Marvel's site, they reveal that the male Thor somehow becomes unable to wield his hammer, Mjolnir, which bears the inscription, "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."
Along with the pic of his female successor, there's one of "UNWORTHY Thor" bearing an axe. And his left arm is GONE. It's replaced by a mechanical prosthetic arm.
This doesn't necessarily mean the "Thor" or "Avengers" MOVIES are changing though. Chris Hemsworth has played him in all of those so far, and he's in "Avengers: Age of Ultron", which doesn't come out until next summer.
There's also a third "Thor" film in the works, but there aren't many details about the script yet. So it's possible they'll incorporate the new female Thor into that plot. Or maybe they'll just ignore it until Chris decides he's too old for the role.
Whoopi Goldberg got to announce it on "The View" yesterday, and made a huge deal about how MONUMENTAL it is.
In the mean time, ladies enjoy...
